The tecteam Bildungsinstitut offers the technical traineeship in cooperation with tekom. This is a win-win situation for both companies and trainees:

  • Both sides have two years to get to know each other.

  • With tecteam, both sides have a professional partner for the training and further education of technical editors at their side.

The technical traineeship is an in-company training program in a company that is supplemented by external further training measures. The technical traineeship is similar to the journalistic traineeship in terms of its concept and contractual structure. This training path provides trainees with a practical introduction to the day-to-day work of a technical editor. The training lasts 24 months, is remunerated with a fixed salary and ends with certification as a technical editor (tekom).

Since 2002, tecteam Bildungsinstitut has been offering technical traineeships in cooperation with tekom. tekom is the professional association for technical editors.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Academics or

How do the degree levels differ?

Professional level: Provides basic knowledge for working as a technical writer in the field of technical documentation under the guidance of an expert, for example, and solving standard tasks.

  • Basic knowledge and skills of the core competencies (e.g. law and standards, professional writing)
  • Knows the steps of the information creation process and can implement individual steps

Expert level: Provides comprehensive specialist knowledge and conceptual know-how to work independently and solve complex problems.

  • In-depth and detailed knowledge and skills of the core competencies

  • Understands the interrelationships of the information creation process and can implement the essential steps

How does the certification examination by tekom e. V. work?

During the training, you register independently for the examination with tekom e. V. and receive an examination date. The tecteam Bildungsinstitut will ensure that the examination takes place as soon as possible after completion of the training. Once you have passed the examination, you will receive a specified certificate from tekom and may use the job title "Technical Writer (tekom)".

How many face-to-face (online) seminars are there?

If you are aiming for Professional level, you will usually take part in online seminars for 13 days; if you are aiming for Expert level , this will take around 15 - 18 days. Optionally, you can also book a 2-day seminar on the Schema ST4 editing system. This seminar takes place at our premises in Dortmund.

What is the salary for a traineeship?

Volunteers receive a fixed salary from the company (recommendation approx. 2,000 euros gross), and the company also covers the costs of external training.
