The first System Day@tecteam took place at the end of June in Dortmund, where several interested participants from near and far were able to experience how a content management system (CMS) and a translation management system (TMS) can be used along the typical process in technical editing.

After a brief introduction, docufy, as a CMS manufacturer, showed why classification is important in a CMS and what benefits it brings for delivery. Classification is the be-all and end-all, especially in the field of content delivery. Using the freely usable PI-Fan variant(www.pi-fan.de) and the sample texts it contains, as well as the classifications in product and information classes, the working method in creation and administration as well as in publication and provision was demonstrated.

Nach einer ebenfalls kurzen Vorstellung erklärte der TMS-Hersteller SDL in Trados Studio, wie der im CMS erzeugte Übersetzungsauftrag anschließend weiterverarbeitet wird. Neben dem „richtigen“ Übersetzungsdienstleister ist vor allem die Qualität der erstellten Texte und damit die Terminologie wichtig. Ansonsten führt es zu „gigo, das bedeutet garbage in garbage out“. Die Teilnehmer konnten weiterhin erfahren, welchen Einfluss Änderungen im Quelltext bzw. verschiedene Arbeitsweisen im CMS auf den nachgelagerten Übersetzungsprozess haben. Zum Abschluss wurde das übersetzte Projekt wieder ins CMS importiert.

A final round of questions and feedback concluded the afternoon and sent the well-informed participants off into their well-earned evening.
