It's that time of year again, a new year begins. And just as certain as the turn of the year is the annual habit of making New Year's resolutions. In principle, this is a good thing: over the holidays, people use the time to reflect and talk to friends and relatives about all sorts of things. More sport, less food, more leisure activities ... the current professional situation is also often discussed. And possible perspectives are pondered. It's just that the good intentions often don't stick! But why is that?
Possible backgrounds
Here's an attempt to shed some light on the background: People wish each other all the best and much success for the new year. These "empty phrases" obviously also encourage people to think about possible new career prospects. The generally positive mood during the holidays also seems to motivate people to do so. But why is it so seldom implemented?
Here too is an attempt at an analysis: it is one thing to think about new goals in a relatively non-committal way. But then to actually set out a plan for how these goals should or can be achieved is another. This plan requires an analysis of the current situation, i.e. "Where do I stand today?" Only then can a target/actual comparison be used to develop a plan for the stages and activities needed to reach the goal. What is the first step? What exactly do I need/want to do?
ACTUAL analysis is the key
I think this is the main reason why good intentions usually don't materialize: The ACTUAL analysis brings you back down to earth quite quickly, you become "grounded", so to speak. And after the analysis, it is clear(er) what really needs to be done in order to achieve the desired prospects. Depending on how great the desire for change still is, action is taken or not!
A specialist discussion with someone who is already working in the targeted area and has a high level of expertise could help here. In such a discussion, you could also better recognize the extent to which your own and others' perceptions differ by mirroring them. And it's also a good way to work out or discuss a step-by-step plan...
