The last few weeks before the tekom annual conference 2016 were already stressful, because it was not only about preparing presentations and workshops, but also about finalizing the RTX Industry 4.0 - smart maintenance project, which tecteam set up together with Dometic, OKIT and FORSIT. And how could it be otherwise, not everything went as it should at the dress rehearsal ;) . But as the saying goes: a dress rehearsal with mistakes promises a successful premiere!

Making contacts and updating knowledge

As every year, the trade fair offered good opportunities to deepen our contacts with the various system providers. At the same time, there were also opportunities to make new contacts and get to know other system providers and their products better.

We had very pleasant and purposeful discussions with many familiar and new faces.

As always, however, the time was too short to be able to deal with the topics and people in as much detail as we would have liked.

Correct warnings, but still legible

Olaf Dömer, Senior Consultant at tecteam, together with our colleague Sabine Marre, led the workshop "Formulating warnings in an understandable yet legally compliant way" and summed up the tekom days as follows:

Both of our workshops were fully booked. There were lively discussions and questions about the individual topics we covered in the workshops. Even after the end of the workshops, individual participants were present to clarify individual questions. We had the feeling that even though the topic was presented from time to time, the interest never waned. Otherwise, the conference was a success from our point of view. There were some interesting discussions and meetings with customers and partners, so that the time passed quite quickly.

Terminology and translation errors

tecteam 2016

In the workshops that I held on an actually quite dry topic, data categories (in terminology), committed participants questioned and thought through traditional working methods together and came up with new solutions - it was never boring.

Eva Tenschert, technical editor and consultant at tecteam, told us about her impressions of the event:

For me, a positive paradigm shift was visible and tangible at this year's autumn conference: away from just collecting knowledge, chasing after the latest trend and working through tasks, towards communicating, reflecting, pausing, being creative, being humorous, finding solutions. I believe that it is precisely these qualities that are needed to ensure that "Industry 4.0" does not remain a buzzword that is overwhelming, but instead becomes a concept in which people have their place before machines (or tools, systems, methods).

Between man and machine

As technical editors, we often live in no man's land at the interface between man and machine without any signposts. Who, if not us, can understand and make it clear that it is not people who are there for technology, but technology for people. We remind people that only humans can create new contexts, be creative, solve problems and have a sense of humor.

With all the activities, it is not surprising that the conference ended far too quickly and we are already looking forward to 2017!
